Ecopia's mission

Ecopia's mission is to digitize the world using AI.

We provide foundational information for critical decision-making, improve the welfare of societies, efficiency of economies, and health of environments.

Ecopia specializes in extracting insight from geospatial big data. Our intelligent systems leverage groundbreaking advancements in artificial intelligence to convert high-resolution imagery of our earth into HD Vector Maps, which are embedded into critical applications around the world.

2013 - 2014

Technology Development

Our core technology was developed through PhD research at the University of Waterloo, a globally-recognized leader in computer engineering. After being awarded the Science and Engineers in Business grant from the University of Waterloo and Federal Government of Canada, the technology was spun out of the university, and Ecopia.ai was founded. This allowed the first founders to begin exploring business opportunities and build our initial prototype.

2015

Forming the Founding Team

Ecopia formalized a powerful partnership with DigitalGlobe, and generated the first and only complete HD Vector Map of every building in the United States; mapping 169M buildings across the 9.834M square kilometre country, within 6 months.

2016

First Continental-Scale Customer

With a strong customer base and global partnerships, Ecopia expanded the team with an office in Toronto. Further, our first continental-scale project was secured;  we mapped 16 million buildings across the 7.692 million square kilometre continent of Australia within 6 months for a federal organization, PSMA .

2017

Strong Organic Growth

Ecopia continued to see strong organic growth; more than doubling revenue and number of employees for the fourth year in a row, and further expanding our technical capabilities.

2018

Scaling Up

Ecopia formalized a powerful partnership with DigitalGlobe, and generated the first and only complete HD Vector Map of every building in the United States; mapping 169M buildings across the 9.834M square kilometre country, within 6 months.

2019

Next Generation AI

Ecopia has hundreds of customer engagements around the world, amassing a powerful and growing database of HD Vector Map content across 100+ countries around the world. We continue to expand both in terms of geography (worldwide coverage) and product suite (more advanced products).

2020

Continental Scale Extraction

Ecopia continued to expand its Global Map Content, producing the first comprehensive digital maps of sub-Saharan Africa. Further technological developments continue to unlock additional mapping capabilities including 3D Land Cover maps and HD Road Networks.

2021

Global Partnership Expansion

Ecopia continued to expand its global partnership ecosystem, partnering with Airbus and CGR to create 2D and 3D country and continent-wide vector maps.
